Engine mock up… NASA American Iron Javelin update

Dropped the motor in place to check clearances. Everything looks good. Headers fit and oil pan clears the k-member and steering rack. I’m going to have fun getting the steering around the headers but I was kind of expecting that… ordered a bunch of stuff yesterday (starter, fuel pump, water pump, etc). The valve covers in this shot are stock and aren’t the ones I’m going to be running. Speed-o-motive is modifying a set of Edelbrock covers with a breather setup. Hopefully they’ll be here early next week. I need to pull the motor back out and mock up the bellhousing and trans. Assuming everything looks like it’s going to work I’ll then slam the engine back in for good!

  1. Hi, just anted to let you know I love your site and look forward to your frequent updates. I wish you were still in NYC (as I am in Jersey) because I would love to see your car first hand. I had a 73 Javelin AMX that I sold when I got married and can’t wait to get my hands on another one. I would love to incorporate some of your work and ideas into mine, once I get my hands on it. Keep up the good work and I would love to see more pics and can’t wait till the next post.

  2. hey Brian, thanks for the kind words. I lived in Montclair from age 5 to 11 before moving back into the city. I can’t take the winters so I don’t ever plan to live on the east coast again 🙂

you definitely need to get another AMC. Let me know when you do!
